Frequently Asked Questions

Why use Cloth?

    • Natural cotton fibres feel better on your baby’s skin.
    • Cotton is more comfortable, it's cooler and more natural to your skin.
Help protect the depletion of natural resources.
    • Kushies diapers are made of several layers of 100% soft cotton flannelette.

Are they easy to use?

  • As easy to use as a disposables (velcro closures).
  • Use flushable-biodegradable liners.
  • ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS REMOVE THE SOILED LINER AND FLUSH!

 Prevent leakage

Here are some tips to reduce leakage:

  • Do not tuck in your baby's undershirt inside the waistline of the diaper
  • Adjust the waistline as snug as possible.
  • Ensure that the leg area is snug, to do so you can place additional liners in the diaper.

How many diapers do I need?

 We suggest the following:

  • Infant Size: 15-30 Infant size diapers (10-22lbs / 4-10kgs).
  • ToddlerSize: 10-20 Toddler size diapers (22-45lbs / 10-20kgs).
  • 2 packages of 10 Kushies® washable liners.
  • 3 rolls of flushable-biodegradable liners(100 sheets per roll), especially helpful for messy clean-ups.

   Will I save money?

Yes there is a huge cost saving.

  • Over a 2 ½  year period (7500 diaper changes) you will spend about $600 (included are costs such as detergent, diaper pail additives, energy(electricity/gas) compared to $3000.
  • A saving of approximately $2400!

Do I need to pre-soak Kushies diapers?

YES, and you will need a diaper pail.

  • Simply half fill diaper pail with cold water and add 1/4 cup of baking soda, vinegar, or Amaze.
  • Fold the fastening tabs and place it in the diaper pail.
  • Never use a pure soap or detergent in your presoak as they will cause the premature breakdown of the fibres and wear down of your diapers.
  • For stubborn stains, you can scrub with an 'old~fashioned' laundry soap bar before presoaking

Which cycle should be used to wash the diapers?

 Diapers should be washed separately.

  • When you are ready to do a wash, empty the pail right into your washing machine and spin them out.
  • Proceed on Normal wash cycle with the detergent of your choice.
  • WE CAUTION NOT USE A PURE SOAP as it can leave a fatty, waxy build-up on the cotton fibres which make the diapers less absorbent.

If you are concerned with soapy residue, we suggest that:

  • You increase the water level in proportion to the diapers
  • Reduce the amount of detergent used
  • Double rinse the load

Never use Bleach (powder or liquid) when washing Kushies diapers.
It weakens the fabric and is not safe for baby's skin.

Do not use fabric softner on the diapers, it leaves a coating which will decrease the absorbency. It is also not healthy for baby's tender bottom.

 What about drying time?

  •  Use on a regular cycle – it will dry in less than 1 hour
  • To shorten drying time, a dry towel can be thrown in to draw moisture
  • Make sure the Velcro closures are closed (this will prevent sticking to each other)
